Don’t Run Away-Stay Home and Fight for What You Believe!
For Americans, there really isn’t any place where you can avoid what you don’t like here. Indeed, it is likely to be far worse.
I was prompted to write this after reading a Medium post by an American who relocated to Europe. As another American who has lived overseas and who writes a series about an American living abroad, I’m interested in the experiences of other expats. As a politically active Democrat, I’m always keen to know what my fellow Blue team members are thinking is the best way forward in this Age of Trump 2.0.
We are experiencing some difficult times here is the US, with a bitterly divided nation, and a President whose staunchest followers were promised-and are receiving-policies that nauseate and offend the almost half of American voters who rejected Trump. In my 75 years on this planet, I have never seen such a divided America, nor has there ever been another President who saw their role as dividing the nation even further.
It’s normal to hear a handful of noisy partisan Americans complain that if a certain person or party wins the Presidency, they are leaving the country. It isn’t particularly widespread, and virtually none carry out the threat. There was a lot more such chatter in the 2024 election, and I expect the actual number of political emigrants to be near zero.
