Substack is different from Medium. While there are many topics-in-common, my experience has been that Medium is more visceral, emotional, and to be blunt, when it comes to politics and divisive issues, it’s readers often seem more inclined towards rhetoric, cliche, and fairly ineffective attempts at “gotcha.” This can be interesting at times, but it doesn’t always work for those of us who wish for a more serious and meaningful experience. Medium excels on articles about contemporary culture, travel, and personal growth accounts. (It’s way too full of tips on how to make money writing on Medium.) Most of what you read on Medium about politics, the Gaza War, or religion is posted as a form of propaganda or monetization, not to inform, enlighten, ot stimulate…
