STUDENT PROTESTS THEN AND NOW

We protested the Vietnam War and racism back in the Sixties. We didn’t shout antisemitic tropes, we didn’t assault our fellow students, and most of all, we actually had some skin in the game. Today’s protests are driven by hate, racism, and nihilism.

Like most American, I watch with horror the pro-Hamas, antisemitic thugs who have seized campuses and beaten and harassed Jewish students and faculty. There’s bipartisan agreement that this must end, that the incompetent college administrators must be replaced, and when peaceful persuasion does not cause them to cease their criminal behavior, it’s time to call in the police.

I know a bit about student protests, having been in a quite a few back in the Sixties. We protested a war we thought was morally wrong, strategically unnecessary, and most of all, we young men did not want to fight in it. We had genuine skin in the game, in addition to our moral and political leanings.

We also protested racism in America, Today’s student protesters promote antisemitism. We fought against war. Racism and antisemitism were completely absent from these protests. These protesters glorify terrorists and genocidal nihilists.
