The Palestinian Authority Has Learned How to Read the Tea Leaves, and That’s Good for Peace
PA now decries Iran and its terrorist surrogates, opposes any involvement in the region. The smartest move they could make.
The Times of Israel is reporting that the leadership of the PA, which governs the West Bank, has denounced Iran and Hamas, and vows to deny them any role in their territories. They are starting to take action against Hamas in their areas of control. This is wonderful news, as it shows a new streak of pragmatism in the PA (or Fatah, the political wing of the PA, by which they are also called.)
There is no love lost between Hamas and the PA/Fatah; when Hamas was elected by the people of Gaza in 2006, one of their first actions was to root out PA leaders and toss them off rooftops. In Hamasland, being a supporter of the PA is as much a death sentence as being LBGTQ+. The PA is not a religious organization, certainly not radical Islamist extremists like the terrorists of Hamas or Hezbollah. They have tried to unify with Hamas countless times over the past two decades, without any success. Not surprising, as the PA has tried to operate as a normal government, just very badly. Hamas is simply a nihilistic terrorist group with an insane and utterly misguided interpretation of Islam. Looks like PA has now changed course and wants to wipe out Hamas remnants in the West Bank. Here’s wishing them total success.
