The late Israeli diplomat Abba Eban said this in 1973. The actions of Abbas and his ruling clique in the West Bank Palestinian Authority shows us that nothing has changed in over a half century. When offered peace for the people of Gaza, the PA promotes more war.

The late genocidist and terrorist leader, Yayha Sinwar. The leadership[ of the PA in the West Bank mourns him, calling him a great national leader. No point negotiating with them anymore; when they get new leaders-first they have to allow elections-give Israel and the US a call. (Image courtesy CNN.)

If Abbas and the PLO/PA want to be taken seriously as a negotiating partner and to play a role in a Palestinian State in the future, this is the worst way to go about doing so. Mourning a monster and calling him a great national leader is sure to persuade Israelis these aren’t folks to deal with, and it is hardly likely to cause the US to pressure Israel to do so.

The Abbas position makes no sense. Just when the PLO/PA had a golden opportunity to present the world with a vision opposite the nihilistic racists of Hamas, they embrace them. Do they understand that Hamas will not reciprocate, and will continue to throw PA member off roofs in Gaza, because at heart, the post-Arafat PLO/PA is a secular political movement, not a violent religious movement like Hamas, Hezbollah, or the Houthis?

As the late Israeli diplomat, Abba Eban said way back in 1974, “The Palestinians never miss an opportunity to miss an opportunity.”

In a move that surprised me, Netanyahu offered to spare the remaining Hamas…
