There is no inconsistency. I cannot deny that there are many different "races" on this earth, and every one is represented among the Jewish people.

The reason that European or "white" Jews don't bother to deny or argue about being identified as white is twofold: 1.) it's not relevant to who we are as Jews; 2.) we understand that much of the rest of the world insists on classifying us by race, rather than just as Jews.

Let me just say that your views are not at all reflective of the views of the many, many Black people I have known. None of them have ever had the slightest problem understanding that I am Jew, in my case, a Jew who the rest of the world calls white. My wife is an ethnic Filipino, but a Jew; the rest of the world can call her whatever they wish. Caspar Funie, who is Michelle Obama's cousin, is a prominent rabbi; he is Jewish and Black. If the three of us ever get together, it's three Jews, that's it. The rest of you can classify us by race, but when we are together, we're all Jews.

(Readers, take the word of a Jewish man who happens to be white, not someone who thinks they know better than we Jews do. )

I find it rather offensive that you are telling a white person that they don't know what it means to be white, and you telling a Jewish person they must define themselves as you want them defined, which is by race. It is quite arrogant, to even assume you know how we think, or that have any real understanding of our history and culture.

What you are not getting is this: others have tried to define us as race, most notably the Nazis, the Italian Fascists, and today's modern antisemites, who claim that the only true Jews are those who can prove DNA from the ancient Hebrews.

Try and understand a culture where the members do not consider race to the main focus of their identity.
