“You Can’t Love Your Country Only When You Win”

President Biden’s comments after Donald Trump won the November elections ring true to any American of good conscience. We saw on January 6, 2021, what happens when people stop loving their country when they lose, and the consequences of refusing to adhere to the guiding principles of rule of law and peaceful transition of power.

If you are reading this, you almost certainly know how strongly opposed I was to the election of Donald Trump, and that I worked to elect Kamala Harris and other Democrats. It just didn’t work out as we Democrats wanted.

The loss cannot stop us from loving our country. Even a loss to an unhinged and delusional narcissist should not diminish anyone’s love for America. If anything, it should inspire us to show the love we have by continuing to fight on for what we believe is best for America.

When Barack Obama was elected by a landslide in 2008, Mitch McConnell and the Republican Senators met the next morning to develop plans to obstruct the new administration in every way, make sure nothing gets done, so that the Republicans could win in 2012. Obama got the ACA passed, got comfortably reelected in 2012, and Trump wound up taking over the GOP.

The GOP embarked on the same tactic after Joe Biden trounced Trump in 2020. Yes, they did win the Presidential election and now control both Houses of Congress, but what will they be able to accomplish with anti-government fools running amok in both chambers, determined to make sure the…
